Lappset brings inclusive design to Konttinen Park

A new chapter unfolds in the heart of Rovaniemi, where Lappset’s story began. At Konttisen Park, Playful Nordic Design meets the power of inclusion. Surrounded by fresh air, and northern lights, this playground invites everyone, children, families, and community members, to play, move, and explore together. It’s more than a playground. It’s a shared space where accessibility, imagination, and challenge all come together.

Where challenge meets accessibility

At Konttinen Park, inclusive design means no one is left out, and everyone is invited in. Each element encourages movement, cooperation, and creativity, offering just the right balance of fun and functionality.

Highlights from the playground

Play tower: Maximilian (Meadow)

A multitower made for many kinds of play. Lower levels offer accessible activities and roleplay panels for younger children, while the higher sections bring in climbing challenges and space for imagination to soar.

Motor skills track: Eeli (Snow)

Movement made meaningful. Eeli invites children to test their balance and coordination with sculptural climbing shapes. It’s all about learning through movement, safely and confidently.

Seesaws: Sara & Karin

Sara encourages teamwork and coordination, with space to stand, sit, or move together. Karin is smaller and easy to approach, helping younger children gain confidence while having fun.

Spring rockers: Vene & Auto

Vene has room for two, making shared play joyful and straightforward. Auto adds a spark of vehicle-themed excitement, perfect for a first taste of playful movement.

Play paths: Hemmo & Silja (Bloom)

Not just paths, but adventures in disguise. Hemmo is great for biking and active play, while Silja can be a bridge, a tunnel, or a hideout, wherever imagination takes it.

Sign: Tero (Meadow)

Even the signpost plays a role. With hooks for bags or helmets, Tero blends practicality with a friendly, playful touch.

Designed with everyone in mind

Konttinen Park is designed as a whole, not just a series of play spots, but a continuous experience. Artificial turf and accessible paths ensure smooth movement for wheelchair users and pushchairs. Different zones are easy to reach and clearly connected so that every child can find their way into play.

Surfacing plays a big part in making it all work. With over 45 customizable elements, it adds colour, texture, and purpose to every step. It supports sensory exploration, open-ended games, and imaginative movement across the entire space.

A place for the whole community

Konttisen Park isn’t just for children. It’s a gathering space. A place where grandparents meet toddlers, where neighbours stop to chat, and where shared moments are sparked through movement and laughter.

By weaving accessibility and sustainability into every detail, this playground brings Lappset’s vision to life: creating environments that support wellbeing, welcome everyone, and invite the world to keep moving. Movement for every heartbeat.
