Johan Granholm, who has been the Honorary Consul of Denmark in Northern Ostrobothnia and Lapland since 2013, has received a significant recognition from H.M. Queen Margaret II of Denmark. On the 1st of January 2022, the Queen appointed Johan Granholm as Knight of the Order of Dannebrog for his work for the Kingdom of Denmark and awarded him the Knight's Cross.
The Order of Dannebrog (Dannebrogorden in Danish) is the second of the Knight Orders of the Danish Royal House. It was founded by King Christian V in 1671. The Grand Vizier of the Order is the ruling Monarch, currently Queen Margaret II. There are four categories of medals awarded by the Order. In 1951, King Frederick IX of Denmark decided that also women can be appointed as Knights or Commanders in the Order of Dannebrog.
The duties of the honorary consul include e.g., to assist Danish citizens living or visiting Finland in various situations, such as passport and driving license matters and in various crisis situations. In addition, the honorary consul must promote, create, and maintain relations between Danes and Finns in terms of business, culture, politics, and other areas of life.
Johan Granholm works for Lappset Group as Senior Vice President for Sales & Marketing and he has worked for the company since 2010, of which he has been Honorary Consul in Denmark since 2013 for nine years.
Granholm, 59, is an officer by education and graduated from the National Defense University in 1987. He completed his MBA in Management in 1996 at the University of Oulu. In addition to these, he has attended several leadership-related trainings during his career.
Johan Granholm is married and has four children.
The office of the Danish Honorary Consulate is located in Rovaniemi at the headquarters of the Lappset Group. In Oulu, the consulate is located in connection with Granholm's home in Haukipudas. In addition to the Danish Honorary Consulate, the Swedish and Icelandic consulates in Rovaniemi also operate in Lappset.
