LasseMaja's Detective Agency

LasseMajas Detective Agency is a very popular Swedish children's book series in which the children Lasse and Maja solve clever mysteries and crime stories. The stories created by author Martin Widmark have now been transformed into experiences in a fortress-like environment built in the Sockerbruksmagasinet in Old Linköping by Lappset Creative and Fantasia Works in close collaboration with author and book illustrator Helena Willis.

Interactivity through the tablet app

In LasseMaja's Detective Agency, children - and why not parents too - solve tricky criminal cases through three different themes.

One of them is to solve the mystery of the sabotage of a campsite owned by the campsite host Gunnarsson.

The second theme is to find a thief. The thief has escaped from the railway station! He has stolen things both on the train and at the railway station. Lasse and Maja take care of the situation and manage to solve the thefts.

The third theme takes you to Count von Fransen and his servants who are organising a castle party. After a few days, all of Valleby has been invited to a chocolate tasting, but something has gone wrong in the preparations. The situation seems worrying. Lasse and Maja find a solution to this mystery as well.

A new experience in LasseMaja's Detective Agency is interactivity. The game experience is controlled by a tablet that is handed out to the players. Through it, they receive tips and instructions throughout the game experience. Fantasia Works' structures and game logic are timed to work with the app's software.

A long-awaited project!

Local author at the heart of the detective house

Martin Widmark, author of the popular children's book 'LasseMaja's Detective Agency', was born and raised in Linköping and is one of Sweden's most widely read authors for children and young people.

It is the mysteries in the books that form the basis of the missions visitors have to carry out in LasseMaja's Detective Agency.

- Three to six people walk around in seven different cells and carry out various physical and digital tasks. The inspiration came from TV4 and "Prisoners of the Fort". It's good to be of slightly different ages because you have to be a bit clever when trying to figure out who the villain is in each mystery," says Magnus Wetterö, CEO of LasseMajas Deckarhus.

Built inside a listed building

The author has carefully described the elements of each story and their events, which the designers at Lappset Creative and Fantasia Works transformed into tangible and/or virtual experiences.

-"The collaboration with the author and his illustrator has been easy and smooth. It has been very important for us to listen to and follow the author's opinions and thoughts in storytelling, as well as the visual appearance created by the illustrator on the premises, says Jari Partanen, Sales Manager, Lappset Creative Works.

Deckarhuset is built in Sockerbruksmagasinet in Old Linköping - the former building of Fenomenmagasinet. The warehouse is owned by the city of Linköping and is a listed building.

-When designing the spaces, careful consideration had to be given to the boundary conditions of the museum building so that the space meets the museum's standards. For example, the physical structures are designed to stand on their own as they cannot be bolted to the protected plank floor," concludes Jari Partanen.

Unique concept

The LasseMajsa Deckarhus is made of standardised modules in different sizes - Small, Medium and Large. The plywood walls have the same motif on both sides.

-"We want to be able to create a 'mystery rotation', as we call it. Then the different mysteries/rooms e.g. The "Love Mystery" can in the future be dismantled and sent to one of the planned Lassemaja's Deckarhus in Helsinki, Oslo, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Luleå and Krakow. "The maintenance value for our customers becomes greater with a rotation, but it is also positive from an economic aspect, but mainly to be as sustainable as possible," says Magnus T Wetterö.

To be able to build so many scenes/rooms, a company with experience and knowledge of scalability and modules in the world of experience was required.

- Lappset delivered a new modern way of thinking, mainly with sustainable thinking but also with genuine enthusiasm and broad knowledge. We have received an incredibly professional treatment and they have quickly understood our needs, challenges and wishes. Lappset not only did what we expected but took an active role in the process to make it even better. The enthusiasm and humility were much appreciated and the creative team brought energy, power and knowledge throughout the project. We felt very secure. Now the big job is done, we have laid the foundation for the next LasseMajas Deckarhus," concludes Magnus T Wetterö.
