Boligforening Nyrnberggården, a cooperative housing association in Amager, Copenhagen, has transformed its courtyards into inviting green urban spaces that encourage outdoor play. This thoughtful redesign strikes a harmonious balance between sustainability, functionality, and aesthetics, showcasing modern courtyard design at its best.
Innovative Landscape Design for Urban Play Spaces
This playground stands out due to its unique location—nestled between two large apartment buildings, making use of a long and narrow space. Despite these constraints, the area has been cleverly utilized to create a welcoming and engaging outdoor play space for residents of all ages.
A Playground Designed for All Ages
To foster inclusivity, the play area is thoughtfully divided into two distinct zones:
Playful Haven for Toddlers
A safe and stimulating environment designed for young children, featuring:
- A sandbox with a playhouse to spark imaginative play
- A Seahorse spring rider and a Flora See-saw, designed to enhance movement and balance
- A slide integrated into a soft rubber mound, blending seamlessly with the landscape
- A Flora bench area crafted to encourage parent-child interaction and social engagement
Adventure Awaits for Children
For those over three years seeking active and exploratory play, the area includes:
- Forest Elf's Swing set that encourages physical activity
- Fell of Ara tower, designed to support multi-level engagement and imaginative play
The Fell of Ara rises nearly five meters, rewarding climbers with three stories.
Sustainable Design
The playground features nature-inspired equipment from our beloved Flora series, known for its organic forms, natural color palette, and durable, low-maintenance material - Nordic pine. The design integrates seamlessly with the urban greenery, creating an inviting and environmentally responsible outdoor environment.
