A child’s development is comprehensive. Physical development is strongly connected to learning and to the child’s socio-emotional and cognitive development. Positive experiences from physical exercise together with other children form a good base for the development of the child’s self-image. Therefore children’s physical education is not only aimed at promoting motoric skills and health but also at supporting cognitive and socio-emotional learning. Growing up to a way of life that includes physical exercise is also important.
In the Muscle Control Studio of Rovaniemi Polytechnics for professional education children’s motor co-ordination and its development were studied during the period 2001-2002. Lappset product development is based on the results of this study.
