Customised playground in Rovaniemi, Finland

During summer of 2021 the Kirkkolampi park, beside Rovaniemi’s picturesque church and pond, received a facelift in the form of a customized playground that we refer to as the City Play Tower.

The city of Rovaniemi, Finland, surely has many great things to say about being the hometown of Lappset. In addition to providing jobs to hundreds of local families, a variety of our products are used in many of Rovaniemi’s parks and public areas.

During summer of 2021 the Kirkkolampi park, beside Rovaniemi’s picturesque church and pond, received a facelift in the form of a customized playground that we refer to as the City Play Tower. Though only less than 1.5kms from the bustling center of Finnish Lapland, the Kirkkolampi park is a calm and relaxing place that regularly hosts picnics and outdoor fun in the summer; and is a favorite walking area of many of the city’s residents. The appearance of the City Play Tower, in a way, reflects the identity of Rovaniemi and its history. Dominated mostly by modern buildings, the core structure of the play tower is cool and firm. The window elements of the play tower, however, serve as the colorful single-family homes that dot many of the surrounding neighborhoods and city districts.

Again, melding old with new, are the slides; one a more traditional style, while the other is more modern. Stairs, two rope ladders, a climbing wall and half-arched climbing net all provide access to the second level of the City Play Tower, where users can peer through the telescope at objects much farther away, or call to their friends to come and join in the fun. In a way, this unique piece of equipment shows many of the simple innovations that Lappset has developed over its 50+ year existence. Mixing classic with contemporary, reserved with vibrant and all the while creating something unique, functional and fun.
