Lappset – A laboratory of play

Lappset Group is based in Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland not that far away from the rumoured haunts of Father Christmas. In other words, its location alone puts the company in an excellent position for studying play and playfulness.

Lappset works in close and comprehensive cooperation with both the University of Lapland and other educational institutions in the area. As one of the leading enterprises in its field, Lappset is also an important influence in the FEPI (Federation of the European Play Industry). Cooperation with youth organisations such as the Young Finland Association helps Lappset to maintain a youthful approach to its business.

Dynamic Garden is a major research and product development project coordinated by Lappset Group Oy and sponsored by Tekes, the leading Finnish funding agency for technology. Under the umbrella of EUREKA, a pan-European network for market-orientated industrial R&D, the project aims to create a fitness and outdoor exercise park, suitable for all ages and enhanced with technology. Lappset Group Oy and Tekes are investing a total of around 1.5 million euros in the project.

The international InnoPlay project aims to develop a new concept for playful learning where learning and playing are firmly bound together. The project revolves around the use of Lappset Group Oy’s technology-aided SmartUs playground environments. The project is funded by Tekes and by various enterprises and local and regional governments.

Did you know that...
Studies conducted by Lappset and its partners have found that theoretical school subjects such as mathematics can be taught extremely successfully in a playground environment, even better than in a classroom.
