The Löten estate in Uppsala, Sweden, comprises some 20 two-storey buildings. Over the last few years the buildings and their surroundings have been thoroughly renovated, the process culminating in a determined effort to make the local playgrounds measure up to the current EN standards in the autumn of 2001. 

The Löten area is home to a large number of children aged between 1 and 15. In addition to families with children, a population of pensioners also has to be considered. The pleasant greens have now been kitted out with seating, a tennis court, a basketball field and barbeque facilities. The new playgrounds further enhance the appeal of the outdoor areas. One of the play areas is designed for older children from 10 to 15 years, and adults can use the same equipment for exercise purposes.

The project involved the renovation of seven different playgrounds which were distributed amongst the buildings so as to make children’s access to the play areas as easy as possible while giving the parents a view of the playgrounds from their windows. The client was also keen to hear about the suitability of the various pieces equipment for different age groups and eager to get a professional opinion on which of the old pieces of equipment should be dismantled and replaced with completely new equipment and what could be renovated.

Why was Lappset chosen?

The client’s representatives who were entrusted with choosing a supplier decided to go with Nifo-Lappset’s bid on the basis of the following considerations:

• the versatility of the proposed selection of equipment for the various playgrounds
• the quality of the graphic illustrations, drawings and perspective images of the equipment
• the clarity and detail of the description of the playground products
• the disclosure of an exact total cost and a timescale for the entire project

After completion

After completion we asked Gunnar Lövgren for his opinion on the process. Lövgren said that he was extremely pleased with the results and that the local residents were very happy with the Nifo-Lappset products, which in their opinion look very durable and seemed well suited to the environment.
