Example: Play Ship

Strenght
  • Climbing onto the back deck of the ship

Having to climb without handholds and steps forces children to use their entire body efficiently.

    Sense of rhythm

    • Stepping stones
    • “Mushrooms” in the middle of the ship

The moving elements needed for crossing from one side of the ship to the other with one or two feet at a time are challenging.

      Balance
      • Uneven surfaces at the sides of the ship
      • “Mushrooms” in the middle of the ship
      • Stepping stones

These elements test how well children can maintain their balance during the exercise as well as regaining their balance at the end of the motion.

      Spatial perception
      • “Mushrooms” in the middle of the ship
      • Corrugated surfaces at the sides of the ship
      • Snaking handrail

These elements test how well children can judge distances and size – including when moving.
